A Whole College Approach to Promoting English and Maths
When learners arrive in FE without English and maths quals, one thing we can be certain of is that whatever has been tried before, hasn’t worked for them. So, we need to take a new approach, one which includes the whole college, which incorporates and celebrates English and maths in everything that we do.
Learners without GCSE grades A* to C in either English or mathematics follow appropriately tailored courses in English and/or mathematics. The considerable majority make substantial and sustained progress towards grade C or above (CIF, 2015).
Anyone working in Further Education who has a responsibility to contribute to the promotion of English and maths within your establishment.
Staff and learners see the relevance of English and maths to their main programme of study, this will raise learner attendance, achievement, retention and success. Staff feel more confident in their own skills and more passionate about supporting their learners to succeed in their English and maths qualifications.
All training packages can be delivered as full or half day training sessions, more substantial courses in English and maths provision are available on request. All sessions can be modified to meet the needs of training providers and institutions.
